Who Needs the Sun?

April 19th, 2013 admin Blog No comments

The day before I photographed Lauren, Jess & Louis, I had walked along the route where we were to meet. The sun was going down, and it was beautiful, with a lovely golden glow making all of the otherwise drab looking surroundings come to life. I  went home and immediately contacted their mum to meet at the same time the following day, and had been so excited to do a session in this light, with lots of planned shots with the ‘golden hour’ light in mind.

The day arrived and the sun shone down, the skies were blue and I was confident all would be perfect….but as Giles and I walked along the path to the meeting point, a dark grey cloud stretched across the sky and the sun was gone!  I was gutted!

As soon as I met the three siblings, they were laughing and giggling away, and were really happy to get stuck in. I took lots of group shots, as well as spending some time on individual portraits, and they were a pure joy to work with.  I was really happy with how this shoot turned out, and hope they were too. It goes to show that you can’t rely on the weather, especially here in Scotland, but if you have great subjects then your job is a doddle!

Family Reunion

April 19th, 2013 admin Blog No comments

I had a call recently from a woman who was looking for a photographer for a very special occasion.  She explained that it was the first time in years that all of her family would be together, and the first time the grandchildren would meet.  She was keen to have some photos to mark this special event, with one large family shot alongside some more relaxed images of the kids playing and having fun.  She said she liked my style of photography, so asked if I could arrange a session at short notice, which of course I agreed to immediately.

We still had quite a lot of snow around, so I opted to go to the grounds of Cally Palace in Gatehouse Of Fleet where the snow should be relatively untouched in comparison to most areas.  It was also a good in between meeting place for the family, who travelled from Newton Stewart for the shoot.  Once they arrived, we got stuck in and started with the more formal groups, then we just let the kids play and photographed them. They were lovely children who had so much fun, and a couple of them had never seen snow before, so for them it was an extra special treat. Giles was assisting me during this shoot, which was really helpful with it being a larger group than usual, so the two of us just set to work and had fun.

My client has just seen the photos and is really pleased, saying she will have difficulty choosing as there are ‘..so many fab pictures’. I hope I’ve helped to mark the memory of this very special weekend, so she can look back on it happily in years to come.
