I’m Lynne — the photographer behind Alice Rose Portraits.

I founded the business in 2012 here in Dumfries & Galloway, after noticing there was very little natural, outdoor family photography available locally. Most sessions felt studio-based and heavily posed — and as a mum of three, I knew that simply wasn’t how family life really looked.

I wanted photographs that felt honest. Full of movement, personality and connection.

Before launching Alice Rose Portraits, I assisted my husband in his wedding photography business, focusing on bridal preparations and relaxed, reportage-style coverage. That experience shaped how I work today — quietly observing, gently guiding where needed, and always looking for the in-between moments that tell a real story.

Over the past 14 years, I’ve worked almost exclusively with natural light. I understand how it shifts through the seasons, where to find soft shade on bright evenings, and how to embrace both golden sunsets and dramatic Scottish skies. That experience means sessions feel calm and effortless — even when the weather isn’t predictable.

Most importantly, I understand families.

Every child is different. Some need time and space. Some bring endless energy. Having three children of my own has taught me patience, flexibility and the importance of adapting to each family as they are — not expecting them to fit into a mould.

I know many beautiful locations across Dumfries & Galloway, and I’m still discovering new ones. After more than a decade, I still genuinely love what I do.
