I should start by saying my name isn’t Alice. There is a story behind why I called my photography business ‘Alice Rose Portraits’ but let’s save that for another time. My name is Lynne Atkinson, I specialise in photographing children and families and am now into my thirteenth year in business.
Based in Kirkcudbright in Dumfries & Galloway, SW Scotland, I live with my husband Giles, and my three children. I started my photography journey assisting my husband in wedding photography many years ago, but even back then I was always drawn to photographing the children at the weddings. This, along with a passion for photographing my own three children drove me to set up Alice Rose Portraits in the Spring of 2012, recognising the importance of documenting a child’s life in pictures as they grow up so quickly.
I generally love to shoot outdoors with natural light, looking for the best times of the day to create the perfect shot. Location is also important to make the image more special, often finding beauty in places others might take for granted such as old doorways with peeling paint or corners of gardens where the grass is long and wild. I love the beach, making the most out of the spectacular coastline we have on our doorstep, but have worked in numerous locations over the years including anything from working farms to spectacular back gardens. An exception to the rule is when photographing young babies, whereby I prefer to work indoors using the available natural light. I am happy to travel within the region (I will have to charge mileage for locations outside of Dumfries & Galloway).
The job is not complete when the photos have been taken; after a shoot I can spend days working on the final selection of images, skilfully enhancing each individual shot carefully in an editing suite to create unique and magical images.
