Seasonal Blooms

January 29th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

I love flowers for adding some gorgeous colours and added interest to a portrait, and always try to find a way of photographing children in amongst them throughout the seasons.  I love how each one offers something different, from winter snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells of Spring and the vast array of colourful blooms and wildflowers during the summer months, the variety is endless.  Even if there are no flowers to be found on location, I have introduced them in various ways as props, as they introduce a pop of colour into a photo.

If you are considering booking me for a photo shoot and love this idea, have a think about which is your favourite seasonal flower as this may give you a better idea of when to book me for.  Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this some more on lynne@aliceroseportraits.co.uk 07928 013519.

Brand New Baby

January 18th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

I am reluctant to title this post ‘Newborn Shoots’ as I think it’s interesting to explore the first couple of months of a brand new life.  Very often, parents aren’t able to arrange for me to come over within the first couple of weeks after a babies arrival, which would technically be the newborn window, but this blog should hopefully encourage parents to get in touch at any point during the first couple of months, if they want to capture them whilst still brand new.

The beauty of catching them as a newborn, is that you are very often able to capture the baby asleep, something they do most of the time at this stage.  This means you can try to get very cute shots of them fast asleep, and more importantly, alone, and focus in on the tiny features which might otherwise be tricky to get if the baby is moving.  However, this is not always the case, and very often parents become frustrated and concerned when their baby decides it’s wake up time at that very point when we are trying to get them to nod off, and this can ruin the experience for them.   Over time, I’ve come to realise that this isn’t worth losing sleep over (excuse the pun) and that many beautiful moments can be captured even if baby refuses to sleep.  I’ve learned that the best place for baby to be is in their parents arms, and have developed a preference for capturing the relationship between mother, father and baby at this special time.  I’m really just interested in documenting moments as naturally as I can, so if baby decides they are wide awake or even wants to have a good cry, I try to go with the flow.

As these shoots always happen in the home, I do ask that there is somewhere with a good amount of natural light, and ideally one wall which can be used as a blank backdrop.  I very often have to move the sofa to get the spot I’m looking for, but it’s always worth it.  At the end of the day, I don’t require much space for this kind of shoot, so it usually works in most spaces I’ve visited.

Here are a few shares of brand new babies, ranging from days to months old.  Please contact me if you would like to book me for a newborn/baby shoot.

Large Group Shoots

January 17th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

Every now and again I’m asked to do a shoot, with the main focus being on a large group portrait.  Most of the time this is with the intention of being for a gift for a family member, and some of the time it’s simply to mark a celebration or the gathering of an extended family.

If the main focus of a shoot is the portrait, then this can take up quite a bit of my time and attention on the day.  I do, however, try my hardest to get shots of everyone individually and more naturally if at all possible, but there is no guarantee how many shots I will get aside of the portrait.  Please take this into consideration when booking me for a large group shot, as the larger the group, the less individual shots.

Please contact me so we can discuss this further.

Beach Shoots

January 17th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

One of the joys of living where I do, is the abundance of coastline on our doorstep.  I always love the beach as a location as it offers so many variations, from the wide expanse of sand and the reflections in shallow water, to the rocks and surrounding grasses.  The combination of the right light (please note, summer beach shoots are amazing nearer to sunset) the right tide and lots of fun, can result in some of best shots going!

Here are a few examples from beach shoots taken along our wonderful coastline.

Farm Shoots

January 11th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

Over the past couple of years, I have been invited to photograph families on their farms, which I really enjoy.  I’m always trying to look for new locations, so these opportunities always get me very excited.  The beauty of farms is that there is usually a large variety of locations on offer. I love the juxtaposition of the industrial and the natural in this environment, from the old outbuildings and cowsheds filled with haystacks and farm machinery, to the surrounding fields and lochs.

Here a few images from three different farm shoots. If anyone would like to discuss a farm shoot with me, please contact me on 07928 013519 or lynne@aliceroseportraits.co.uk

Winter Shoots

January 10th, 2017 admin Blog No comments

When you think of Winter, you could be mistaken for thinking of wet and dark days.  Admittedly we’re going through a bit of that, now that we’re into January, but we were really lucky to have some gorgeous crisp winter days at the end of last year.  The light is usually great at this time of year, as the sun is low in the sky, so when it is shining it can help in capturing some of the most magical shots possible.  I also love the fact that everyone has to bundle up in the cold, with lots of layers and layers of woollies, hats, scarves and the works.

Here are a few shares from one of my favourite shoots from December, which go some way to prove that you needn’t be afraid of a photoshoot in the Winter.
